Mother's Day Bags

I made a couple items for the Threadbanger Guild Treasuries for May!

This is a scrappy wallet. I had the outer fabric all done up from a failed vest, so it was rather simple to make, actually. The inside is a recycled sheet, the outside all my pink & green scraps-- you will recognize most of it, I'm sure! I've had some of this fabric from when I was 11 or 12, believe it or not. (Seriously. Fabric is really hard to throw out!)

This is a record purse. I haven't posted my other two on here yet, because I don't have all the pictures on this computer, but I have made two others. I'm not gonna lie and say that they're fun, but I really love the result. The actual bag for this one was already pretty much made, which was really the only reason I got this done. I only had to sew the records on--which is, actually, the hardest part. It's more difficult than you'd think! I don't have a solid pattern made yet for these, so sometimes the bag is a little smaller than the record, but even if it's a fraction off it's extremely hard to sew it to the record. ((Sore fingers afterward.))

& if you were curious, the holes were made in the record using an old bent sewing machine needle, a candle, and pliers.

They're both listed on my website if you want more pictures! www.mateycouture.etsy.com

Sometime destroying is more fun than creating.

Razorblade + tee = awesome

Inspired by Joodito.

Sorry for these less-than-wordy posts. I'll be back up to my usual chatty standards in no time, I'm sure.

Featured Artist: Makaalohilohi

As a seamstress, I am a little sick of your average tomato pincushion. In my opinion, it's over done. I mean, a tomato? Really? Why food? Tomatoes aren't even cute, like fruit can be. But I digress. I am here to talk about a lovely and talented Etsian and ThreadBanger Guild member, Makaalohilohi. She's got an awesome little shop, selling cozy-looking fleece "scoodies" & adorable scarves with handmade buttons. But my favorite item is one that would sure come in handy: this little pincushion.

Look at the beading detail! It's so pretty, and infinitely better than the bright red tomato pin cushions. If we all had pincushions as lovely as this one, I'm convinced the world would be a better place. :)

Please check out her shop!

Grand Canyon! Polkadot Coat! Which is a bigger deal?

So, I've been busy and up to a lot. I'm currently in New Mexico, on the tail end of the vacation. It's been fantastic--and warm--, but it'll be good to go home. I get to list my spring collection just a couple days later, too, which is pretty darn exciting for me! I hope you're excited too. :)

Here we are in Tucson, Arizona. Note to self: heels + walking a lot = ouch. But they were so adorable and we had lunch in a garden--what can I say? I couldn't resist!

I love my coat. Very much. It's from Delia*s (www.delias.com), and I was so happy that I could wear it on this trip.

We hiked down about 1.5 miles into the Grand Canyon. It was hard work! Especially going up. But very beautiful the entire way.

Remember this shirt? Remember how I said I was going to photograph it somewhere fantastic? I am so happy with how the photos turned out! I can't wait for you guys to see the rest of the clothes.

Today I bought some lovely, lovely fabric--China silk in a brilliant blue and a black to go with it. I'm going to make a skirt. It has the best drape ever! I will, of course, post pictures when I finish it. It's late here, so I'm off to bed!
